Soonhwa Kang
Soonhwa Kang is a Korean-Japanese visual artist born and raised in Tokyo and based in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
Working primarily with clay and ink, her practice explores memory, ritual, migration, diaspora, and belonging across generations and geographies. Rooted in East Asian ancestral memorial and offering traditions, her work reflects on how identity is shaped through continuity and displacement, and how presence and absence persist through material forms.
Her studies in German Literature, Design, Fine Art, Ceramics, and East Asian ink painting inform her approach to material, form, and cultural memory.
Through her work, she creates spaces for dialogue across cultures and temporalities.
